Why the proxy checker is on hold
A bulk proxy checker means our server opening connections to any host and port a visitor types in. Built carelessly, that turns this site into a free port scanner and an anonymising relay — someone could point it at internal infrastructure or use it to probe third parties with our servers taking the blame.
It needs egress isolation, blocking of private address ranges, strict concurrency and per-visitor rate limiting before it can ship. We would rather leave it unbuilt than ship something that gets abused, so it stays here until that work is done properly.
